Networking through LinkedIn

Change my mind. Networking through LinkedIn, where do I even begin! To summarize, it’s a scam, a BIG scam. They say write a personal note to the ones you want to connect with. I do that, to every recruiter for a job I am interested in. Just for a simple connect. Not one gets back with a “hey”. Tc: 96k Yoe: 1.7 years

Networking is a myth. When there is a real job opportunity, people refer the people they know. I don't see any real value add by LinkedIn connections

Lmao, unless you’re also a recruiter, messaging a recruiter is not networking, it’s just another way to try to get into the job. Networking is connecting and actually talking to people who are either in your field or even outside of it. Getting a referral is the sought after byproduct of it, not to be confused with the actual connection. If you’re building your network while you actually need a job, you’re late.

While I get your point. I’m not directly asking a recruiter to give me the opportunity to interview or even remotely close to the job posting. I try to initiate with a basic message only to get a reply back. Yeah that doesn’t happen. I get completely ghosted while I see them actively pasting “ WE ARE HIRING” on their feed. More like robots with no two way communication.

You might not be, but they can’t tell the difference unless it’s super clear that you’re NOT interested in any of their roles. Posting on LinkedIn is part of their day to day - responding to requests isn’t. It could also be the message you’re sending, but I can’t help you there because it’s similar to shooting your shot on the first message of a dating app match; what works for one person won’t work for someone else. If you want to get in touch with a recruiter, my recommendation is through other recruiters you already know, or to get in touch with someone who you know who knows a recruiter. “Friend of a friend” works well here.
