Networking tips for bio-tech internship

Going to bio-tech for stats programming internship this summer. Will have exposure to different teams, especially data science. Any tips to network with ppl at bio-tech? I really want to stay at the company for full time because I like the culture and the company benefits. The hiring manager mentioned that she is opened to me staying on full time in the event that i do well on the team and Company Wide there is an opening. (In the past, only 3/10 interns transited into full-time) #Biostatistics #sas #Biostatistician #sasprogramming #stats #pharma #biotech #biopharmaceutical

First two weeks focus on orientation and learn about the project. Then, contact your team and other collaborators for a 15-20 minute meetings to learn about their work and ask questions. Take this is an opportunity to explore your best interests. Don’t sound like you are desperate for a fulltime during the informal meetings. You never know they might be on your interview panel when you apply for a fulltime.

Wow thanks! This is very insightful! It’s my first corporate job. My first job out of college was in a relative small organization.

1) Don’t eat lunch alone. 2) People are always happy to talk about their work and interests. You can strike up informal conversations in the break room or set up informational interviews. 3) Any alumni from your university at the company? You can reach out to them. 4) Take full advantage of all work social events. 5) Befriend the other interns. They’ll be great contacts in a few years. 6) Aside from your manager, identify someone who could act as a mentor to you.

Those are all great advice! In terms of working remotely, how can I make the informal small talk with ppl?

Tougher, but not impossible! By informal, I don’t necessarily mean small talk, either. You can always leverage the first few minutes of a meeting while folks are logging on to make small talk and get to know people. Also, if you have 1:1s with people, that’s a great chance to get to know them better and dive deep into what they do.
