I see post on here all the time where people are asking if they should wait for a promotion before starting the interview process. I don't see any benefit to waiting on a promotion. When you interview for a new position, do not mention your level or your current compensation. What level you are interviewing for should be the focus of the conversation with the recruiter. If they offer a lower level than what you're aiming for, you should explain the scope of the work you are currently doing and refuse to interview for a lower level. Old TC 230k New TC 350k

Depends on the team. Nothing is standardized at MS. Core competencies for behavioral, a SD round, maybe a coding round.

Eh you just jumped for a promo. No need to hide your level, you just need to be good and negotiate the promo. Microsoft has to overlevel to compete on TC.

I tried hard, but the FB recruiter insisted on knowing my current level. If I didn't tell my level they'd assume I'm lower any way. Ended up getting offer for same level as my current level at G. Thanks to the stock appreciation at GOOG, they couldn't get anywhere close to my G comp, so I ended up saying no. TC: 900k (until my initial grants vest, or until GOOG crashes back to mid-1000s)

What OP said only works if you are behind on promotions to begin with. For example no one is gonna itnerview you for E5/ICT4 with 2-3 YoE or for ICT5 with 6.
