Warning to all the prospective employees who might want to join . Don’t just look at the recent stock price pop and what the analysts say . I have never worked anywhere where the management/HR is this dishonest. They were so much into flex work and promoting themselves as a remote friendly company. Infact they were promoting their own vpn product Global protect as a means to scale safe wfh during the pandemic. Now guess what- they are mandating everyone who where hired as office based employees back to the office freaking 4 times a week by the end of summer . I joined about 2 years back and I live 60 miles away from the office and my commute is 2 hours each side . My manager knew this too and was specifically mentioning flex work so u don’t have to worry yada yada. Now it’s all doing down the drain. They even removed references about flex work form the internal portal to fit their new requirements . So f****n dishonest . And all of this after being on the lower end of wlb (I’ve clocked innumerable 50-60 hour weeks here ) and supported several products launches . So anyone considering employment please reconsider cause they just lie at your face . Sorry had to vent this out somewhere .#tech #wfh #panw Tc : 410k
Tc, Yoe? Remote work will not be forever and many knew it. I have friends who live like 80-90 miles from work and are asked to come. They are in software companies. Why don’t you rent out or sell your house and move closer? You will certainly get a good price given Bay Area real estate is heating up.
Rent out in the middle of nowhere like Lathrop. Unless I want to go cherry picking or water park, there is no reason to be there. Everyone and their aunts were flying high with the assumption that remote work is here to stay. This was bound to happen.
Not sure if op mentioned anything about lathrop. How do you know that?
But is the TC good? I feel like almost every company said they are going remote during covid to attract talent, and now going back on it.
4 days is too much but also saying you wouldn’t wanna come at all is bad. Try to resolve this amicably wfo twice a week. And once the dust settles nobody cares if you came to office twice a week. So patience
This. All this nonsense will stop in a year and no one will care.
Some companies like apple count your days in office and ensure you do your 3 days
I don’t even know what Palo Alto does lmao
Many big companies including mine use their VPN service
They do VPNs? What else, honestly I’d like to know
Sh.t I thought Palo Alto was kicking Cisco's butt. Didn't know they're so shady. Cisco allowed remote work even before covid
I worked at Cisco too and man no one comes to office 😃
How is the culture at Cisco? Is it easy to coast?
Did you Really believe that it will be remote forever ? Lol
What is Palo Alto Networks?
I do not understand this rant. Remote Work is being evaluated by a lot of different companies, and many companies who were remote friendly before have asked people to come in. Ability to work from home is not a binding agreement, if you think it is - feel free to sue. I do not think anything shady here from Palo Alto Networks, just adaptation to changing times. For OP, there are three choices - follow employer mandate, find an emoloyer that offers remote job, or form a company and offer employees the benefits that they are looking for. Remote work existed before Covid and it will continue to exist. But it will be less common than in-person work just like before.
Except that many explorers and hm sold employees on remote. Can you sure? Not likely, but you did rely on that bs in your decision to take a job
I do not think that was BS. Available data showed remote work was viable. But a myarid of data points over time were counter-indicative about permanent remote work. Other than diminished collaboration, people and influencers bragging about overemployment while being remote probably did not help. The effects of Covid also faded quicker than people anticipated. I do not think that many people in 2021 (feds, CEOs, healthcare professionals etc.) had anticipated how quickly the the tides will turn in 2022. But here we are. There would be some remote jobs for sure. It is always a risk to invest on a house not within comfortable commuting distance from work. Some of my friends did the same thing, and now they are spending 4 hrs commuting 3 days a week but they live in nicer houses costing less money. Everything is a tradeoff.
Just go to the office or quit, duh!
A company founded on IP theft and dishonesty is dishonest? Shocked.
Well I wasn’t aware of that . U got a source?
