I'm just over a month into my new role at Square. I received a notice from Google that I passed the HC and am on the team matching phase. The TC is 50% higher than Square (also because it's in Zurich). Is it appropriate to ask Square to review my compensation or is the only choice to leave Square and go to Google? All advice appreciated! #engineering #software #swe #advice
There is an older thread about this. Cons and pros. I would add sth on top of that -- it also depends on your yoe and TC. Early stage (1-2 years, or first 4 years) of career, does not care much about TC.
I heard G offer is valid for a year. So stretch out team match and comp negotiations and then revive it a year later. Meanwhile try to negotiate with square showing how much you like your current job but finding it hard to turn down 50% increase
Who would you recommend I speak to about this, my manager or my recruiter?
Manager to avoid burning bridges. Try to ask them for help vs giving them ultimatum.
Thanks for the advice!
Is this a full offer with a team match already secured and VP signoff? Or just comp discussion pre HC?
Passed HC but still looking for team match. Google team match is unbelievably slow
by the time, you get team match, it will be from 6 months to an year depending on your yoe and expertise.
Google team match will take time. You have another 3-4 months easy before anything gets decided in stone. Also TC or GTFO?

How do you like Square?
It's great, probably wouldn't leave if equal TC
Both roles in Europe ?
