New Grad Review

Hi all I joined AWS about a year ago and it was one of my dream companies since I specialized in distributed systems. However, I was extremely disappointed in the way things are done. The focus on deadlines and pushing content out versus code quality and developer experience is too much of a difference. We have constant issues in fixing our deployments and testing (testing for 2-3 lines of code change can take up to 4 days). Is this normal in the work force? To have such a urgency on deadlines that you sacrifice quality? Potentially looking for opportunities to grow my software development skills elsewhere because in the past year, I have learned almost next to nothing since I was out of college and I'm getting pretty sad/upset about it. YoE: 1 TC: 145k P.S. Not a TC chaser, so if you're hiring and have a good team, I'd be extremely interested even if I take a pay cut! Really only care about learning right now.

How will a startup be like?

Less process oriented, maybe innovative. Its an assumption, never worked for one.
