Hi everyone, I am an undergraduate student graduating early next year. Recently got offers from Robinhood and Apple AIML org, due to my lack of experiences in the workspace and software engineer career, I'm not sure which company would be a good choice for a new grad just out of college, I hope you can give some feedbacks about the companies such as the tech aspect, career growth or progression. TC differences are not big for both companies, so that will not make a big impact on the decision (base around 120k and stock around 150k) Thank you very much for your time and thoughts. #apple #robinhood #newgrad #software #engineering #swe
Go to robinhood to move fast and break many things. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to make big contributions that you wouldn’t be able to do at Apple. Go to Apple for move slow, but learn how to manage the processes in a proven top tech company.
No please don’t break things at Robinhood 😭
What is broken, may never break again
I know it’s not always obvious, but you should be interviewing the company, as well. It should be a mutual match. Or, did both excite you equally?
Agreed with this
Yes yes, agreed with you. I think both opportunities are very excited. That’s the tough part.
AIML is the place where you want to be buddy, great exposure in solving majority of data engineering problems.
U mean maintaining ETL infra ?
Nope writing Algorithms to solve problems! ETL infra is mostly done by devops in here and SRE so op doesnt have to worry about it! But sometimes op might have to get their hands dirty in the operational stuffs if something breaks!
AI/ML is awesome!!
If you want to get in the air/ml field then nothing better. Take Apple.
Focusing on career and advancement? Do you get satisfaction out of being able to influence ideas and stand out? Don’t go to Apple then. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad place, but it’s not a place to get ahead. It’s a place to go for stability.
Shocked at how split this is. Apple is 🔥 for stability in most cases unless you work on a crappy product/service.
If they weren’t a new grad I’d be more enthusiastic but depending on your org careers are VERY slow growing at Apple.
If you think you’ll be able to build your skill set and get into FAANG later, go to RH and then come back in a few years at a higher ICT level. I would say take Apple overall, but I see the appeal of RH
Apple. At Robinhood you'll be shaving micro amounts of alpha for rich people or detecting fraud
Refreshers are huge - 50k+ in grants that vest over the next 4 years. Does RH give them? Apple is pretty food with them, so if Robinhood doesn't give them, your Apple offer is far better.
50Kplus is huge for u? 🤣
From New Grads point of view 50k+ is huge
