New Joiners of Google, Facebook & Amazon

Are your RSUs based on current stock prices? If yes , then joiners at similar roles 4 years ago are earning 4-5 times your RSU value. How do you plan to bridge that gap? Any idea anyone else?

Facebook king(fb) Dec 11, 2021

No point worrying about that. Why do you think we need to bridge that gap? Its peaceful to just focus on what I earn.

Amazon RIgC55 Dec 11, 2021

I don’t think there’s a way to bridge that gap. You get what you get. No need to compare yourself to other employees. We’re getting paid out the ass already. Also low stonk prices just means room for growth.

New joiners are generally making more than those who joined 4 years ago.

I want to switch to tech industry and hence the question. Can I ask HR for RSUs worth 1M and tell them that hey you paid 200k worth of RSUs to level X in year 2016 and it’s now worth 1M. If I were to join at the same level X now, then it’s fair for you to pay me also 1M because you are paying the other guy 1M now. No?

Doesn’t work that way

What kinda question is that? You are assuming people never sell their RSUs in 4 years and everyone has whatever they have when they started. That’s now how it works.

Lyft upxm26 Dec 11, 2021

And they assume that 4yr grant is still vesting in 5th or 6th year 🤣

Lyft upxm26 Dec 11, 2021

The reality is that new joiners often gets paid more than existing employees bcoz they get paid at top of the band.

Wells Fargo bdbdbdbdbd OP Dec 11, 2021

4year grant is recurring right? So in 5 and 6th years you should receive at least as many RSUs as you did in the first year correct? And of course with the increase in your position, you should receive even more, no?

You are cute, did you just wake up and downloaded Blind on your phone 🤨

Wells Fargo bdbdbdbdbd OP Dec 11, 2021

Yea I did. But 😔I am not a kid, and am in my late 30s. I did work hard getting the best gpas but landed in the wrong company/job and stuck because of gc

Apple ShibaKaBap Dec 11, 2021

So you can never compare yourself or your comp to those who joined earlier - it’s meaningless and they do get the benefit from joining earlier. However, if you don’t join now, you will only have yourself to blame 4 years from now. Think what you are going to miss not what you already have missed.

Ecobee bzLJ6 Dec 11, 2021

You might as well say “hey the first employee ever here has equity that’s worth 1 billion dollars now, you should at least give me at least that much or else it’s not fair”

Google gdspaceguy Dec 11, 2021

People who bought and hold stock since 1980 are super rich now. How will you make up the gap?

Vexos ironman3 Dec 11, 2021

OP, I want to close my Wells Fargo account. NOW.
