Hi guys, I’m gonna join a new company. I need to stay at LinkedIn until at least Nov 15th in order to get my stock vested; and the new company’s start day is also Nov 15th. Can I set my termination day at LinkedIn Nov 15th? That way I can get my stock vested; however, I’d need to join the new company the same day, which means technically I’m serving two companies on Nov 15th. Is this gonna cause any issues? Can LinkedIn ask the stock back if they notice this? Or can that new company terminate me because of this? (I’m currently on green card)
If u are on green card no issues
Push start date one week and stay at LinkedIn for that week in order to Avoid the grey area.
LinkedIn can fire you at any moment if they find out about this, but if they do it at or after the 15th you'll still get your stock. They are definitely not going to ask for it back. The real issue is that you'll likely have commitments with both companies on that date (training/onboarding and exit interviews). Make sure you plan it all accordingly so you can do both.
Agreed. It doesn’t make sense to add more stress. Plus, I would take a month off in between company changes.
You're working from home, lol. How did you accomplish this?
Nov 15th is Monday, HR can notice it and ask your manager to make your last day the Friday before. Best thing would be to push out your joining by a week. Most of the companies would be okay with it. Worst case, you can be employed with both employers for 1 week. It might be a little hectic, but I think would be worth it.
who cares?
Give yourself 2 weeks, don't risk jeopardizing your vest
Yeah ^. No way i resign before vest date.
Start new job 16th
I know a lot of people that have their last day the day after vesting date to get their RSUs. So make your last day on Nov 16, and first day then or day after.
Not sure, but that seems risky to me. I would terminate employment a few days/week after. Green card has nothing to do with terminating employment, you will not lose your residency status since you’re a permanent resident already.
Why don’t you take a month? If you still don’t want to, why not take a few days of vacation/pto/sick time and terminate your employment after while you start your new role?
