Hi all !! Short background- I am an international student doing masters in USA. Before starting masters I worked as a software engineer for more than 4 years in home country. I successfully completed my internship at LinkedIn during summer2022. Recently, I received a return offer from LinkedIn. I would like to know, are there any chances at LinkedIn to get promoted within a year to Sr. SWE considering previous experience (provided skills of prev exp are demonstrated)? Is prev exp considered in promotion cycle ? #engineering #software #swe #linkedin #promotion
OP - What’s your new grad TC?
I got just verbal offer. Waiting for the written one.
Yes, it's possible to get to Senior SWE in 1 year. Your master degree is not a factor in that though. It's all based on your performance
I'll piggyback on your post seeing that no one answered mine. What's the expectations to get promoted from Senior to Staff? I have a couple projects I am trying to run with but my manager doesn't seem as invested in my promo as I am. What does it take to go from Senior to Staff in under 2 years?
It's very difficult to level up from Senior to Staff, especially under 2 years. It's possible but that's a highly ambitious goal. everything is documented in ic cpp. The first step is to understand this document well, by starting the conversation with your manager.
Its probably difficult but again, provably possible. I have a datapoint who did Senior to Staff in <18 months. Exec communication, right documentation, bit of a work branding (think of Tech talks, whitepapers) and good rapport with your M1, M2 and as a bonus, an orthogonal M1, M2 => good to get Staff.
