New grad opportunites at Intel?

I am interested in pursing a full-time career at Intel, however I have heard horror stories about the expectation and wlb of working in a fab. What other opportunites are available at intel or similar semiconductor companies to a mechanical engineering student outside of fab/manufacturing engineering?
