New hire is troubling

We hired a new hire to the team. And I am pretty sure its to replace me as I am more senior. I was unemployed for a few months last year due to a layoff, and I am afraid to be laid off again. Problem is this new hire who was fired in his last job and hired here and who bad mouthed his past employer on linkedin. I dont want to train this person, who will be replacing me. I am in my 50's and this guy is in his 20's from Amazon for 4 years. How can I get by without training him to replace me. I cannot afford to be unemployed again

At this age you should have accumulated experience that will make you important to your org and should not fear of training this person.

Agree with you. But job market is terrible and this new guy is rude and condescending and wont take input. small code review comment he goes ballistic. Plus if i guide him, he goes around saying its his idea. what should i do

Do not explain shit to them and let them figure out everything on their own. Take 2-3 hours to reply. Try to work hard as fuck and show that this place will fall apart without you. Be very busy to answer and help.

You should train. But keep all vital information and tricks. Also take time. Whether you train or not, if the management decided to replace you, they will.

Looks like that strategy didn’t work out for you :D

This strategy delays the eventuality, but doesn't save. Mine got delayed by 8+ months

I wouldn’t guide anyone who takes credit for others work

If he’s got 4 years at Amazon, why does your team need you to train him? Shouldn’t he be able to contribute reasonably independently w that much experience?

Ask him to submit work over mail so that feedback of his work is over mail so that you can prove he is not the right fit Only difference, they will find someone new to replace but you would have time to find something else
