I come from web development, UX/UI specifically. Self-taught, no college. And while my profile says Microsoft Program Manager—I’m decidedly not managing any programs. So consider that kind of experience zilch. How does one even start thinking about that kind of role?
Accidentally. Was industry leader in a feature that I was brought in as program manager for. Feature was deprioritized within months of my arrival. Followed by a reorg.

You’ll enjoy PM at Facebook if you enjoy: 1) A ton of responsibility and ambiguity 2) Not necessarily taking credit for stuff 3) No direct reporting relationship with people you work with Being PM at other places can prepare you for the role but you’ll probably struggle a bit once you come in to FB
I wouldn’t call my PM role at MSFT anything like a normal PM role. Assume no background.
Sounds like product at any company that has real PM roles not fake project managers.
