New wave of layoffs?

This week: LinkedIn layoffs off 600-700. Qualcomm is laying off 1200. Waymo laid off. Nokia announced it will layoff 14000. Ericsson is also laying off. Is this another wave?

Google googler10 Oct 19, 2023

Yes

LinkedIn Ryans-Knee Oct 19, 2023

Yes... It makes sense in terms of timing. If the company wants to offer severance through the end of 2023 or "through the holidays" and doesn't want to break the news via WARN, then the second half of October is when the layoffs occur.

Twilio needybaby Oct 19, 2023

Can you elaborate on the second part - what is WARN?

Google GameCube Oct 19, 2023

WARN is a California law where large companies have to warn employees in advance at least 60 days

Qualcomm BuildingN Oct 19, 2023

Qualcomm 1200 is CA only.

Investment Bank Glinda Oct 19, 2023

Layoffs have been constant since Q2 2022, it's just most of them were not the big brand names. Layoffs will continue until interest rates start falling which is unlikely to happen in the near future with oil prices rising.
