TLDR: Looking for career advice as to how to join Square at some point. I have been working at a fin-tech startup for almost 3 years now. I’ve learned a lot since joining, have climbed the ladder internally and am now the tech lead of an important new project. While I’m mostly happy here, I feel like my growth and my excitement have slowed down and after seeing colleagues leave for big tech companies, I’m motivated to make my next career move. I would love to join Square / Block. I’m very interested in payment APIs as a domain and the engineering culture is exactly what I’m looking for. All in all, while it might be hubris, I think I would be a good fit. My problem: I haven’t gotten an interview yet. While I am getting recruiters from other big tech companies, no response from any square applications. After talking to some EMs and engineers on LinkedIn it seems that it might be tough to get in with less than 5 YOE. They did pass on my resume but still no response (yet). What do I do next? Do I stay at my company for a while and keep applying? Do I leave for a different company and try again in a year or two? If so, which company would be a good stepping stone? Should I try to network more? Should I build some side projects or work on OSS? I would especially appreciate input from anyone who has had a similar problem or has worked at Square at some point. Reach out to some EMs on LinkedIn or DM me we hire people with all kind of YoEs. Keep in mind most people are not working during the holidays.
Thanks! I have reached out to two EMs and one engineer who were all more than kind and very helpful. So far nothing has panned out, but it might just take a while for the right opportunity to come around.

Have you tried applying to Cash App? Recruitment is separate and it operates very independently but it's similar problems to work on.
I have, no response yet. I stopped applying to roles there though, I figured it’s probably a small team. That said I agree, very interesting problem.
