Ideal indian parents
Hey Blind community- Looking for some ideas on a next career/life move for a techie in mid-forties. Specifically looking to move to a new location with good weather throughout the year and plenty of outdoor/hiking opportunities. Looking to stay intellectually engaged and contribute to the society in some way. Early retirement is a potential option as long as we move to a low to medium cost of living area. What would you do? Summary: - YOE: 22 - Been a Director/VP/CTO for 12 years - MBA from M7 - TC: $300k + options (worth nothing atm) - Current Location: Chicago - NW: $5M - Will be empty-nesters in 2 years - Assume kids college is taken care of
Go to G in Sunnyvale, rest and vest.
Lol. I'm helping my son who's in college with leetcode practice. I cannot imagine putting myself through leetcode hell for the sake of a job at G.
L7 loop at Google does not have a coding round.
Next step is retirement
That seems like a logical next move. But, my wife wants to keep going and I don't like to retire alone. Perhaps doable if I move to a community/location where there are other early retirees to hang out with.
DM me. I retired last week at 38.
Thank you. I will DM you. Now that I recall your name, I may even have posted on your thread.
Startup!!!
You mean found a startup or join a startup? I’m more comfortable doing the latter at this point of my life. This is what I did 2 years ago when I switched.
Latter one
I would recommend SoCal
SoCal looks like a sweet spot. Any particular locations that have a thriving tech community?
LA has some good companies - Google, Facebook, Netflix, Snap, Tinder and a bunch of startups. Check out Silicon Beach. Traffic in LA is a pain. Bay Area (SF, SJ) has good weather too but nothing much to do there.
