Is Nike good for SWE? Need to know more about the teams in general + company culture + WLB (!!) Are there teams we should/shouldn't consider? Any room for career growth? Are there sufficient new projects for developers? Current TC: 100k YoE: 2.5 #wlb #swe #tech #engineering #software
Nike is pushing for Tech/Software a bunch at the moment and it's a very chill environment to work in. Pay reflects that though
I got a friend working at Walmart as swe but nothing interesting. I dont think Nike would be any better
I’m making mid 100s atm. Very chill. On call is 24/7 but depending on team it may basically never go off. Summer fridays mean basically 3 day weekend every week during summer. Wellness week. Gym/rock climbing on campus. Run into random celebs on campus. If you’re working on Nike.com (probably app as well) there are long periods of code restrictions/freezes where you basically can’t deploy anything so you’re just chilling. Surrounded by a lot of people who are stoked on Nike’s ethos which is cool. Since it basically is just be an active healthy person. Less of an impact remote. There’s a few rockstars. Not on every team though. Overall great wlb. Big push for in person though. Sort of died w Covid season picking back up but they literally had coach K give a motivational speech during his retirement event about how important seeing your teammates in person is. Overall good if you’re happy making mid 100s and just want to chill for a long time. I’ve seen people leave and come back as well so no grudges about moving around afaict. Brand name is enough to impress small startups.
Great write up. Can you provide your insight about how good is this team in Nike - Service platform team? I got an offer and still in negotiating stage.
WLB is great. The culture is good too if you’re into sports. You + family members get 40-50% off nike products. In terms of tech there definitely are high scale projects (nike .com, SNKRS app, etc). TC is not the same as FAANG companies (no RSUs) but most of the roles are LCOL or remote. If you’re willing to accept that it’s a comfortable lifestyle
What base can an L5 SDE expect at Nike? I don’t trust levels, sometimes it’s off,
L5 at Nike is the equivalent of Lead Engineer. Nowadays you could negotiate 180-210k base
Career suicide
Why?
