(I've posted this separately to Tech Industry and Finance Industry for visibility. I'm new to Blind so I apologize in advance if that's bad practice.) Hi guys! I'm a senior pursuing a B.S. in Mathematics (computational concentration) and a B.S. in CS. Quant finance is my favorite CS industry due to its combination of mathematical optimization and financial application, and Jane Street's collaborative culture and brilliant reputation make Jane Street my top choice for a new grad SWE or quant research role. Since I attend a large tier 2 state school, I often have difficulty passing resume screens for quant roles despite my Amazon experience. However, when I do pass those screens, I work my ass off and perform extremely well. IMC, Optiver, Akuna, and Goldman Sachs all let my resume through for quant dev/quant research roles, and so far I've advanced to the round before the onsite for all of them. For Jane Street, I've applied online, submitted puzzle solutions, and messaged recruiters on LinkedIn to no avail. I understand that Jane Street doesn't give referral bonuses. The motivation for referrals shouldn't be money, it should be a corroboration of an applicant's potential to succeed in a role. I know anyone can say anything on the Internet, but I think Jane Street would be a perfect place for me and I promise I'd go far if given the chance to prove myself. If anyone at Jane Street is interested in discussing a referral further, please let me know and I'll DM you. Academic qualifications: 4.0 GPA, graduating in 2 years (took 13 courses in past 2 semesters!), perfect SAT Math and Math II, National Merit Competitive programming: Passed Triplebyte SWE certification, 2nd in university-wide competitive programming competition Thank you so much for reading! #janestreet #janestreetcapital
UIUC?
If I attended UIUC, I'd hope Jane Street would at least send me an online assessment lmao. My university is ranked in the range of UT Austin, UMass Amherst and UC Irvine and sends several dozen students to FAANG each year. However, we have almost no alumni who are quants at top shops, which makes it difficult for me to pass their resume screenings. All I want with Jane Street is for them to let me prove myself with an online assessment.
they rarely look at non phd candidates for quant roles right? did you apply for SWE as well?
You should try Two Sigma first. From personal experience, their interview bar isn't as high as JS.
I applied to Two Sigma a month ago and haven't heard back (though I'm still "Under Consideration" according to their portal). Maybe they start interviewing later than other firms, but I'm not optimistic.
Jane Street doesn’t have an online assessment ime. It’s just phone screen and then on-site
Hey op, can you shed some light on your Imc Quant research interview? Have one coming up.
Brainteasers, statistics, probability, some real analysis, and some data analysis
Your best bet is to start at IMC, Optiver, Akuna, etc. Work there for a few years. Jane Street will notice you then. Unfortunately they’re very snobby and Amazon + state school is a joke to them. If you’re coming from a direct competitor though, that’s a different story.
That’s the idea lol. I’ve got onsites coming up with Akuna and Optiver (and Goldman, though that prob doesn’t mean much to Jane Street), so if I can snag one offer from a competitor, I hope to be able to leverage that for at least an interview with Jane Street. Any advice on getting noticed if I do get an offer from a competitor?
Idk man. Learn some ocaml?
I don’t think there are a lot of firms doing ocaml lol. You can certainly get a job from competitors then attend to a better grad school. On campus hire is easier.

What Goldman Sachs role is quant dev?
The analogous role at Goldman Sachs is Quantitative Strategist.
Also applying to for new grad so was curious. All these posts on QR roles make me wish i doubled in stats or math. These interviews seem way out of what I could feasibly learn in a month or two ahah. Good luck hope it works out!
