I am currently moving onto an onsite for a FANG company. The role is a Project Manager in Engineering. Here’s the catch: I do not have a degree. During my interviews, the topic of school/degree never came up. However, on the job description it says “BS/MS or equivalent” What does the “or equivalent” part mean? IF (big if) I get an offer, will I run into any trouble for not having a degree? Any help/advice would be appreciated!
You've gotten this far in your career and you still dont know what "or equivalent experience" means? Talk about faking it till you make it lol.
Says you who works at... oh wait, where do you even work at...?
Ok but all sarcasm aside, I ask because I interviewed at LinkedIn a month ago, made it all the way through but offer got pulled because I didn’t have a degree. The Job description for that role ALSO said “bs or equivalent” and apparently for LinkedIn’s standard, “or equivalent” meant 12 years of work experience OR having a bachelors +1 year of work experience.
Just interview as well as you can and don’t lie. I have no degree, I work at Google.
I would think that if not having a degree was a problem that would have been addressed before you were selected to interview.
As long as you didn’t lie on tour resume, you’ll be fine. I just hope you didn’t put Harvard or something lol
Definitely didn’t put that 😂 The HM reached out to me via LinkedIn and all my info is up to date on there, so....
You’re good. Don’t worry about that. Focus on the interview. Good luck!
Usually just means number of years in a similar field equal to the experience you would obtain through X amount of years for a degree. Pretty open to interpretation from the hiring manager (if it even matters at all to them).
That’s what I had thought, but I had previously interviewed with LinkedIn, was the final candidate, but got offer pulled because “equivalent experience” meant 12 years of working experience or a degree +1 year or work experience... Apparently that’s LinkedIn’s standards
