Recently coming across some 2nd tier companies (older companies like Ericsson, Nokia), Chinese/Korean firms ( Samsung/Zeku) that don’t offer any RSU or very low RSU’s. In 2021, people have dismissed these companies entirely. But with recent recession, stock fall, would you consider these places ? They have slightly higher base. So useful for your mortgage. TC: 350k
Do they offer something else instead? Like more cash or fridays off?
Base is higher .. There is a higher bonus that compensates .. catch is bonus cab be reduced arbitrarily at any time by management… stock value can be reduced by only market .
I worked for a research lab in one of these companies. Base is higher and there is some cash bonus but nothing more. With the low stock right now the pay is in 2nd tier companies is still less than what one can make in companies with RSUs.
State Farm isn’t public so I get no RSU, salary is pretty good for LCOL.
The problem with those companies was never lack of RSUs, it’s the low TC
Is it just the TC ? RSU gives some hope that you can be rich one day .. At least if the company is going through a growth phase you can also grow. There is no such hope from these companies.
I just looked at offers from these companies on levels. It looks like they offer 100-200k even at high levels which is just pathetic. Relative to top companies the base alone isn’t competitive at all even if you ignored RSUs. Not to mention now is exactly when you want to join companies that pay heavy RSU as once the economy recovers we may be making way more.
oppo is shutting down zeku. So no rsu company has nothing to do with job security
Wow !! That’s a big move !!
