No degree, first good job. Want to hop.

14 months YoE, 5 at my new job as a Back End Developer (Node + React), rest internships. There’s been a shift with someone leaving and I am realizing I will be effectively responsible for garbage work (WordPress + PHP) for at least 6 more months, and passively responsible indefinitely. I don’t want 50%+ of my work experience to realistically be a non-mover for my career. Haven’t finished my BSCS. About 3 more part time/while working semesters left. Doing an online program. Generally, would I be ok to start looking now? I’m worried I’d be perceived negatively for job hopping by recruiters. I’ve read that it’s normal to do it < 1 year yoe at the beginning of your career, but I don’t have a degree yet. Really don’t want to stay the conventional 2 years at this place.

No one will care, move - just have a good excuse (the responsibilities were conflicting with school)

Nah they're used to it. You do not even have to make excuses, just say you are more interested in the tech stack used in the position you are applying than the one your existing position is shifting towards
