Has anyone read the book by Netflix CEO - No rules rules ? Is that worth to buy and read it?
If your company pays 🥜, this book is worthless. Overall books talk about: hiring exceptional people (and fire replacable people quickly), remove red tape by giving them autonomy and pay them the highest in the industry to retain. The last part is untrue for 90% of the companies. Not sure how long this would stay true at Netflix as well given that they’re hiring left and right.
The CEO Reed was interviewed and its stored in Youtube. It was about an hour long and easy/fun to listen to (I remember I had been cooking dinner this night). I’d recommend that interview since it sounds exactly like the book but probably more lightweight to consume.
The book provides some examples to show the company really means it. If you don't like the culture, don't read it. If you like it and consider Netflix for your next job, it's worth spending a couple of hours.
Worth it if you’re considering a career here but otherwise good material to start a healthy debate within your current company. My guess is that cultural inertia will make it a hard conversation though!
