Whats peoples take on people with non tech background becoming Engineering Managers. This has been my experience in my past company I had a manager who had a non tech background who became a program manager to tpm to L6 SDM As engineers, we had tough time making technical decisions because my manager dint have any opinions. We had tough time following engineering best practices Importantly my manager dint understand when tasks dont get completed during a sprint because of its complexity where the manager dint understand the complexity of the task. In Amazon the bar for managers is very low . People who have not even coded in their life leads an engineering team . There are also may loop holes at Amazon for non tech ppl to become l6 sdm
Clearly he dint belong in engineering.
It is not possible. You dont know how to judge directs performance. Also there are certain way of thing about technical details, which is nearly impossible to acquire by non tech. Tech people will take you as a joke.
And those ppl who try to rebel or comment will be trimmed by these SDMs in a Amazon style culture
