Received an offer from Nordstrom for an Industrial Engineer 2 role. $120k base and 9% bonus. Location is Newark, CA. YOE - 5. Come from a CPG background from a small company. 1. Is this a good offer? 2. Just read they had layoffs and I’m on a visa Not sure what to do.
Good luck getting that bonus. I would keep looking for better options and steer clear for another year.
Yeah, I did negotiate. Initial offer was $118k base - I asked for $128k and they offered $121k. Current TC is $87k + 10% bonus in Texas Do you know if there were any layoffs on the operations side?
There has not been. We only have had layoffs in tech. This would be product, program management, engineers, and managers. I imagine operations is a strong aspect with Nordstrom as our priority is getting items out and shipped to stores/people. It’s a safer area within Nordstrom.
It’s a risk but in your shoes I would probably take the offer. You stand to gain working on a larger scale at a billion dollar organization and will help you down the line for bigger roles. Earning more money as well is a plus. I recommend you continue your job search if you accept the offer here.
Would not recommend to join.
Terrible management right now
You won't learn anything here. I would stay away
Are you from Supply Chain / Ops?
Didn’t they just layoff 1 month ago. Have they started hiring again?
Why are they hiring h1bs when we laid off permanent residents in your exact role? If you're under my org, know that you'll be prioritized in the layoffs likely happening after our anniversary sale (sometime in August).
Do you know which all orgs are looking for layoffs again?

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
You can push for some more in base salary or push for Day 1 GC sponsorship. Don't expect any bonuses. We haven't received anything in recent years. We just had layoffs 2 weeks ago. Many on visa were let go. If you're not in a hurry. Maybe try to get some offers from others as well.
