5.5 YOE Current TC: 125k, 8% annual bonus, 7-8% of salary annual raise. One time of 40,000 shares valued at around $2 of restricted stock (not public yet). Google position: WSE Web Solutions Engineer is NOT an SWE. Keep that in mind. Different ladder, easier to crack, involved more with developing internal tools within smaller gTech teams. To put in perspective, you should expect WSE L5 Comp to be equivalent to SWE L4. 5 interviews, 45 minutes each. 2 Behavioral, 2 Coding, 1 System Design. Outcome: Strong Hire, instant HC approval. About 2 weeks from interviews to offer. With a holiday week in between too. Offer: 160k base, 165k stock, 15% bonus, no sign on. Location: NYC Take it or leave it? #engineering #offer
You should leave it. But what’s would you do after leaving it is the question? If you are sure about going to get better offer, probability of which seems high, you should leave. Or preparing more for interviews with the current company seems ok too. But rejecting and staying in current company will be foolishness
165k over 4 years…? That’s really really low
Yeah, one time. $238k/$238k/220k/203k is what TC over 4y ends up being.
Can you interview elsewhere? That’s a lowball
How is the tc compared to other companies with the same level & role?
I think the range falls between 195-270k collectively. Could be wrong.
Keep interviewing more! In the worse case, you accept this offer and can easily interview later when you have Google in your resume. Good luck!
Man wtf Google has become synonymous for low balling now
Might be less than ideal but sounds like a step up if you don’t have other options. If nothing else you get some cash and brand name to set you up for your next move in a few years. Can’t hurt to negotiate anyways
No competing offers yet. Was debating if I should get some and use them as leverage. I feel like I may be worth more but then again it’s also not an SWE position.
With a strong packet you should be able to ask for more and they will likely just give you something extra. After the first round let them know if they give you X/Y/Z numbers you'll take it and that'll be a strong incentive for them to meet that.
