Not much growth in current role but great TC ($600K) and WLB. Stay put or look around?

All liquid comp in MCOL. No promo growth in current role, there are many tenured engineers who are first in line for promo. Personal NW is close to $1M, $1.25M with wife. I am getting reach outs for OpenAI, Snowflake, Snap and a few others but I feel like even if they did beat my TC I'd have to waste like half a year interview prepping, then have to ramp up at a really stressful job. I've cracked some trading firms in the past but the comp was roughly the same and double the hours so didn't make sense. I failed my interviews at Rentec, HRT, and JS a few years ago so I figure those are too out of reach. Am I just golden handcuffed until I retire or get laid off? Life is good, it's just that I'm used to grinding but there's not much to gain. #engineering #software #swe

Yea maybe less. Just for lateral moves at this comp band I need to bring my A game to even have a chance.

Money goes a long way towards buying future job freedom. I'd ride it out and build a 12 month FU fund. Then if you lose your gig you can take a sabbatical, or find a fulfilling job even if it doesn't pay that well.

Option: 1. Learn to play politics to break the promotion bottleneck. It is a skill. 2. Feel grateful for having a great NW, wife, and TC at a young age. There are people who are virgin at their 40s and negative NW. 3. Work on doing something other than work, may be philanthropy, passive income, entrepreneurship, research... 4. Brag your life about it on Blind. Motivation to others.

Why do you want to get promoted in first place? Are you looking for more responsibilities or to manage others? Is your job motivating you? Are you happy with your job? Maybe start asking the real questions instead of the compensation one.
