Reading all the postings about TCs and great offers on Blind, it seems that there are always someone making more money and having better lives than I do :( It’s no different than many young girls feel like they don’t measure up because they are not size 0 with double Ds from what they see on Instagram or whatever How about we focus on other things for once? (e.g. WLB, quality of life, cool projects you work on, great teammates, etc)
Tsunami coming my friend!!
More like a slow erosion
Sure, you can think about what you want
(Side note: No you don’t :-). Unless you are female, you don’t know how a teenage girl feels....). But, you do know about the human condition — and especially for those who take their value from their accomplishments, position, wealth ... which is most of us -:). Your post is a great caution. TC should only be used to assess fairness of your current pay; and potential of pay if you move into a role or company or area. Not worth or value. Friends of mine who only make a fraction of my TC, but who go home at end of day, have time to do things with their kids, have energy and capacity to be involved in community are far happier than I am. And I would also say, they have been far more successful at LIFE than I have. [TC ~$350k, 20+ YOE]
Why not? It's easy to predict human behavior, so why can't we predict what girls do/feel/think?
What if OP identified as a teenage girl? Don't be a sexist transphobic Republican bigot.
It’s depends. Higher TC doesn’t always mean higher. Look at it this way: If I make 200k a year and you make 100k a year, well you will obviously say I make much more than you. This is absolute income. However, my job could be very high demand and stressful, I may need to work 60-80 hours a week including weekends. But you have a nice WLB and only work 20-40 hours a week. You have more time to do what you want like spending time with your family, traveling or going out with friends. If you do the math, there isn’t much different and I could in fact make less than you. This is called relative income. Of course, there is always an exception and I’m sure people are paid well for a reason so you can’t just look at TC.
Wtf? What kind of example are you setting for your daughters? Women don't have to measure their worth by breast size and men by their TC size
Agree
j0bhop: think that is his point. Such comparisons are stupid; yet they still completely consume people... teenagers (jokingly referring the the teenage girl syndrome) but also adults and TeamBlind “TC or GTFO” addicts.
TC or GTFO?
Haha, exactly! 😆
Just like girls realize size 0 is not what matters after they turn into “women”, this TC game is also for “boys”. Ask “men” and you will know what they say about their TC.
sadly many women never realize this. society works hard to tell us we’re fat and ugly every day and need to buy products to make us more attractive to men. it’s a damn shame.
Agreed!!
Your analogy is fine. Blind is full of virtue signaling.
I used to feel the exact same way. Especially when your push notifications are on and you see one great offer from another or seeing some 23 yr old asking what to do with their $50k bonus. But I chose to see this as a positive instead. No, it doesn’t mean blindly convincing yourself that “if it happens to them, the exact same thing can happen to me”. Because unfortunately, although skills and knowledge are very important factors, these things involve a lot of luck too. Their current situation shouldn’t be your aspiration as it can likely lead to disappointment. That’s not to say it won’t happen for you, but there are no guarantees. One thing that has helped me is to try my best to be happy for them. It’s really f*cking hard at first, because how can you be genuinely happy for a stranger you’re comparing yourself to. But I choose to look at this as a positive sign that we are in a world of possibilities around us. People getting great TC offers means that there are companies out there offering great TCs. Personally I’d rather see this than seeing a flood of posts on people getting lowballed. Remember that you can’t control how people act, but you can choose how to react.
