Currently L4 at Google RSU at Nuro could be 0, vested after 1st year. Interview for a senior position but get L4. They told me I'm at the higher end of this level but it's still a L4. The TC doesn't really increase before IPO and moving to another company with the same level may delay my career growth. I think I'll take it if it's a L5, any thoughts on this offer? YoE: 4
Google is sinking and it’s sinking at a super fast pace.
Are you also located at Mountain View?
Yes
Yolo it. Go to Nuro
Money wise, worth the risk. You're only taking a 25k pay cut which after tax is about 1.2k a month. Count all private stock as worth zero But at a higher level, what's the risk of Nuro as a company? Have you asked how much runway the company has? AV is going through a rough patch now
Dunno! Focus on whether you’re interested in the work and projects, that will make achievement and promotion easier
TC wise not much difference since nuro has a long path to liquidity, especially given the current market condition. I would recommend making the change based on your domain interests
I'd make this decision with the assumption Nuro equity is 0. They cut around 40% of their workforce in the last year, are having some difficulty retaining talent, and future funding is the biggest question going forward. They've pivoted a bit away from their purpose built bot to licensing their AV stack. I say all this to make it known they are in quite a bit of flux right now. If this doesn't bother you and you are ok with RSUs being worthless, there are definitely less interesting problems to work on, so go for it.
I can’t believe L4 is paying this much but I’d advise not to join an AV company. Speaking from personal experience
That's the biggest concern for me as well.
It’s gonna be a bad move. I would advice against switching

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
Moving to another company at the same level will not delay career growth — it will just be seen as more experience at that level and justify you being upleveled/promoted later. Go where the money is. Go to Nuro
+1 to this, moving at same level is good at mid level and you gain more breadth. Focus more on TC, WLB, learning, impact. Levels aren't even a real thing. That being said, idk about Nuro
Moving to a new company at the same level could make the promotion slower?
