Nutanix

Anybody have experience with their HCI and hybrid cloud platform products? Done a search here and found absolutely nothing. Any reason why I'm the first to bring up this company?

Nutanix isn't really a strong player in the cloud game. Ok if you still own a datacenter and hyperconvergence gets you excited, but most folks are trying to dump or phase-out their infrastructure and move to AWS/Azure/Google/IBM. Buying more hardware to facilitate a hybrid cloud solution isn't ideal.

Managing your own data center is way more cost effective than going to the cloud unless you're a startup or running very specific workloads. It's true that cloud services are hot and most all companies are and will plan to use them, but they're not moving everything to the cloud. It's unlikely any big company will ever be 100% in the cloud. At least for the foreseeable future.

Agree with most of what you said, except that managing your own datacenter is more cost effective. It's absolutely not when you factor in all the variables. I was responding to a question about Nutanix's cloud play so I was only trying to speak to the fact that Nutanix (as a hardware OEM) isn't really competitive in CLOUD deals (IaaS/PaaS). Most enterprises moving infrastructure to the cloud are doing it for cost savings and to reduce operational burden. They're not likely to buy Nutanix (more $, more burden) as part of that process; and what they keep in the datacenter will likely stay on existing hardware. Buying "cloud hardware" is akin to buying a car to drive yourself to the bus stop.

A lot of mainstream workloads where IT dollars are spent is still on premise. Nutanix is quite well positioned there. Their strength is they have managed to forklift legacy on top of their platform and are slowly introducing aws like capabilities in their product.

Nutanix is coming up with Xi cloud, which is the 1st public cloud designed for hybrid cloud.

Their product is not even close to AWS. It would take another 50 years for them to even be like AWS. I know that their SAAS engineering is one of the worst to work for. All the directors in that department are friends of VP. VP promotes all of them in few months. These directors have absolutely no knowledge on IT or their own products.

Their Xi cloud product has so many issues. I know a SRE who is constantly frustrated how bad the product is. I would not recommend buying their products. It’s so frustrating for them because most of the SREs are newly passed out grads Indian students or people who don’t have an expertise. If you even buy their product you would not receive proper support. Their head of support who is someone who barely has any knowledge on products and does not even have a college degree to begin with. Because of nepotism he was made head of support. Anyways the company stock is down 25% and missed their quarterly goals with huge margins.

Sounds like someone who has a personal issue with nutanix lol

You lost me at "not receive proper support". With a NPS of 90+ 5 years in a row and a customer satisfaction score of 98%, let's just leave support out of it.

I guess you are one of those people who licks bosses asses. Good luck with your career.
