Recruiter said that the team is ready to go ahead and asked me for my TC expectation, she did not give any explicit numbers. She said that we are offering high end of IC3 because 1. They could set me up for max refreshers 2. IC4 ramp up and expectations will be more I said, I am expecting an IC4. I have 8 yrs of experience + MS and the interviews went well. She did not deny but repeated the same reasons again why they are offering IC3. When I asked for the max range of IC3 in bay area, she told it's around 270K. She told that she will check with manager regarding IC4 and get back to me. Folks, What do you think is the appropriate level? IC3 or IC4? Also, could you pls comment decent TC at NVDA for my YOE. I have seen around 300K to 325K for 6 to 8 yrs exp, IC4 Bay area new hires at NVDA in levels.fyi. Is that information accurate, can any Nvidian comment? YOE: 8 yrs + MS Location: Bay area Position: GPU Senior System Software Engineer Current TC: 235K #nvidia #apple #msft #amd #intel #qcom #swe #software
How are the RSUs awarded at Nvidia? For example, if the offer letter says $400k (over 4 years), do you get $100k worth of RSUs every year? Or $400k worth of RSUs are awarded at the time of joining and 25% gets vested every year?
hmm.. good question. Didn't check that with recruiter, will ask and let you know
The latter
You’ll piss blood with 8 and IC4. Good luck though with negotiating.
Ok.. so typically how many YOE person do you think might be able to perform ok at IC4 level. Assuming the person is around 75th percentile.
What? I am avg joe and landed ic4 with 3.3 yoe + ms last year . Doing just fine . @intel u are easily ic4 but depends on how ur interviews went
So it’s a common trick recruiters pull. Claim to downlevel you with top comp and max level as if it’s a good thing. Imo it’s a trap unless you think you aren’t going to make it at L+1. You’re basically guaranteeing 1-3 years until you get that promotion internally, and your TC will likely not catch an external hire at that level. I’d push for the higher level, if they say no… well you tried.
The risk is that they just rescind — given the state of the hiring market, it has happened enough times now.
With NVDA at all time high, how much upside do you think you will get?
Stock to 1000
800 atleast, 2 more quarters like this and 1000 should be behind
What Grade at Intel?
You can get IC4 push for it. If you join as IC3 it’s likely going to take 2 years to get to IC4
Similar YOE, recent offer mid 300s, seems like IC4, so you could probably get it. Try to discuss with HM if possible, not the recruiter for your levelup. Good blog post on the angle/strategy for reference https://www.teamrora.com/post/negotiating-with-the-hiring-manager
Did you disclose Intel grade in your resume by stating the title of your position? I am guessing you are either a G8 or at best a G9 at Intel. The recruiter has a pretty good idea of how much you are making at Intel even if you didn't and used that information to put you back one level because Nvidia has all the leverage right now
G9 at Intel is a very high role fwiw. Closer to ICT5.
235 to 270k isnt a jump at all. Their only selling point is stock price.. why not interview more with ur gpu expertise.. so far faang companies used to down level and now even semis started down leveling
235 current --> 270 at their max doesn't seem like a big enough jump to me. You now have the negotiating advantage, I would insist hard on IC4 and ask for 300 at the least.
Yup! makes sense! Will ask for IC4
Given the market, take high IC3. There is most definitely 3 or 4 other backup candidates who are being held “warm” and they can easily offer this to one of them. You’ve already asked - just accept the response offer unless you don’t really want to switch jobs
