Hey all! I was laid off in May and am expecting an offer from Nvidia for a staff software engineer position soon. The recruiter is going to call me on Monday to discuss comp. They also asked me to provide professional references. According to the recruiter, the next step would involve submitting a hiring packet consisting of comp expectations, reference checks and hiring manager justification to the IT estaff for final approval. Can someone from Nvidia please answer the below questions? 1) What is the likelihood that my approval from IT estaff does not come through? My references are rock solid and 2/3 are from people I previously reported to. However, I heard that a few people do not get through this phase. 2) Does staff at Nvidia map to IC4? There is some conflicting info on levels and blind so it would be really helpful to know this before I go into negotiations in a couple of days. 3) Is a total comp expectation of $400k a reasonable target? This is a fully remote role and I am in a MCol city. I do have a couple of other offers and am expecting another one but Nvidia is my first preference. I will make another post with all my offers once I have the final numbers. TC: laid-off Yoe: 10 #nvidia #tech #offer
IC4 is corrects. But 400k and non-bay area is stretchy
What do you think is a reasonable ask?
Bay Area cannot expect that much. You can extrapolate based on costs. Also 10 YOE is IC4. IC5 is not possible.
Approvals sometimes bounce back or comp gets downgraded if your interview results have been mediocre. 400k is definitely a stretch, the offer will reflect the current market.
Thank you!
Ic 4 and 400k seems very difficult,
Exactly, in this economy I would expect somewhere between 330-350k unless you were rockstar in interviews
Thank you for the input. Is there anyway to push for ic5? I was a L7 at shopify which maps to high end ic4 and ic5 at Nvidia according to levels.fyi. Would you even recommend pushing for ic5?
Staff software engineer maps to IC5 If it is IC5, the NVIDIA will match around 400K. If it is IC4 it would be around 300k
The role I interviewed for is a staff software engineer role. However, there is conflicting info about the exact mapping. Do you happen to know if the mapping differs from org to org?
I am not aware about other orgs at NVIDIA, been working for same org after I joined NVIDIA
First, NV does not have any "staff" position. Only IC1-9. You should clarify that. Second, level.fyi may show TC after stock appreciation, which is very different from the target number. Myself got 400k this year as IC3 but my target number is much lower than that.
What do you mean no staff position? I did interview for a staff software engineer position.
With 10 yr exp , ic 5 should be doable. 400 k for MCOL seems a little high. 350k might be possible . Yu can ask for a sign on though
Is $400k for mcol too high even for ic5?
Ic 5 with 10 yr exp, sounds like it. You are basically talking 250 k in base , 600 k rsus for 4 years. Which in my opinion high
There’s no staff or senior staff in Nvidia All are called senior engineer

Staff software engineer. I mentioned it in the title but updated my post to reflect the same.
Ah got it. Sorry. Missed it. Can I DM you ? I am in touch with some recruiters but didn’t wanna switch NOW due to personal reasons. Regarding your question, sorry I don’t have much insights
