Hello, I recently had a call with Cash App's HR team regarding a job offer, and I was surprised that they didn't provide any initial compensation figures. Instead, the call focused on understanding my expected salary. However, they mentioned that the team is considering me for an L4 position. With my 4.5 years of experience, I am contemplating whether I should negotiate for an L5 position. I would greatly appreciate it if someone from Block, Cash App, or Afterpay could provide insights on whether it's feasible to qualify for an L5 position given my years of experience. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide. ----------------------------- Update in Apr: The team did help me argue for L5 which I appreciate and here is the detail of the TC Base: 176k Stock: 255k/4yrs Sign-on: 20k Is it a good amount based on L5 or any insight? #dataanalytics #datascience #data
What's the location? I was in the same boat, they down-levelled me from L5 to L4.
SF. How many YOE do you have?
If you’re at the offer stage your level has probably already been determined, it’s set at hiring committee
Ok, thanks for confirming
I think L5 is somewhere around the 5-7 year range
Just try to interview for L5, worst case is you down level to L4.
Internally, yoe recommendation for L5 is 5 yoe. If recruiter said considering L4, you’ll probably get L4 since you already did interviews and it’s likely based off of your interview results.
makes sense. I had friend with 2Yoe that join as L4, probably bc of my interview feedback + job market not good
Is this for cash app? And is the role PDS or MLM? And do you have a masters or phd? These all make a difference
For afterpay actually, I have masters only.
Hmm. If you have a masters + 5 years of data science experience (not counting internships), then that should be enough for L5. Sorry to hear that you were down leveled. It’s possible that the interview was borderline hire/no hire and downlevel was a compromise. Unfortunately it’s not up to the recruiter, so to get L5 the hiring manager or hiring bar would have to change their mind. I haven’t really seen that happen unless it’s an extremely strong candidate, and that’s normally at the L5/L6 border
Is this for the support role? Block never calls me back for ds 😭
Not that one
Are open roles for L5? I'm stuck in the interview process because of no headcount.
Have you interviewed already?l4/l5 is same loop
Yes I finished all interviews and it's the offer stage now.
could you share what the python pandas screen covered? thank you so much
