I don't plan on switching jobs soon, but due to all the layoffs I want to be prepared #resume #career #careerbuilder #tech #engineering #software #swe
Any public code examples they can review to prove up your API statement?
I do have some public code projects, but no really of my API statements.
I would add LinkedIn and or GitHub links.
Okay I can add that, but do recruiters actually look at GH links?
Some hiring managers might. Of course, only post GH if it has something nice, instead of random projects from 5 years ago.
I wouldn't call that resume for an interview. It's got no structure, no highlights. No one cares about your minor in math and your grades. Make your skills a highlight with a sidebar, a box or a table. Recruiters want really quick answers to their questions. What yoe (school + work), what skills. They spend 7-8 seconds on your resume MAX.
What are some examples of the sidebar, box, or table? Will remove math minor and grades.
Why don’t you mention your religion next to citizenship.
I'm brown and have an ethnic-ish name. Want to make it extra clear.
Lol. @nike, I’m on H1B and I can understand why op has US citizen. A lot of companies don’t sponsor and would prefer citizens.
I think it's a fine resume
Don't you write work locations?
I can add that, but us there a reason as to why?
May not be needed. I just asked.
The huge heading in the skills section seems unnecessary since it’s the only one you have
Ahh see what you're saying. I can prolly change that
Perfectly normal resume. I wouldn’t bother too much. Don’t remove minor in math btw.
Thx for sharing your resume. IMO the greatest area of improvement is in your job experience sections, as the bullets are a bit weak sounding even though you clearly did very cool and valuable work. For each of your job bullets, I’d recommend you follow a template of “did X resulted in Y as measured by Z” where X is specific actions you took, Y is business value for the org, Z is some measurable metric. It’s ok if some of the things aren’t measurable in numbers, but you can still describe the qualitative change/impact. Focus on the what (X) and the why (Y) in the bullets, then be prepared to talk about the how in your interview. For example, you have a bullet that is “went through the process of talking to engineers to pinpoint areas of friction blah blah wrote software to solve problems” — that’s the how, save that great story for the interview. Doing this to all your bullets then removing the weaker ones will make your resume 2x stronger easily. GLHF.
Why do you have to mention US citizen ? Are you applying for Federal or high security clearance positions?
Ppl with a more foreign looking background (name, school, whatever) benefit from making it clear up front if they need sponsorship or not.
Na, just want to make it extra clear. As Sana said this helps since I'm brown and have an ethnic-ish name. It was also a hold over when I would apply in person during my school's career fair
