Alternative investments

TC: 400k I've been looking at a few options for playing around with small amounts of cash with the goal of making some higher risk / higher reward investments. I plan on doing my own due diligence and using that as an avenue to learn more about investing or different industries with some skin in the game. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd love to do angel investing but I'm not rich yet. What can I do to scratch this itch within my means? I technically fit the definition of an accredited investor (income >200k) so specifically interested in any opportunities available to me as a result of that. Current financial summary: - Age 34, single, no kids, renter - Max out 401k each year and contribute to investment accounts and savings on top of that - $400k in investments (60% in IRA + 401k, 40% in taxable accounts, mostly in diversified index funds) - $150k in cash (emergency fund + savings + dry powder) Some ideas I'm considering: - MicroVentures (equity crowdfunding) - Fundrise (real estate portfolios) - Cadence (short term loans) - Yieldstreet (alternative investments) The alternative is just to plow cash back into index funds which is probably the safest move. I have no desire to be a landlord, so buying property in far flung locations out. Would eventually like to own a home but I live in San Francisco and renting is cheaper. What do people with more experience recommend I consider? Thanks! #personalfinance #investments

That’s Indeed a great question

Not clear how much you have to invest. Read you have $400K in retirement investments and $150K cash now. Are you looking at the latter? How much annually you looking to contribute?

Indeed dju66! OP Apr 3, 2020

Looking to invest 50-75% of the latter over time in 500 - 10000 increments depending on the investment. Not looking to cash out of any current investments.

Timing of investments will depend on the risk and minimum amounts. The less confident / familiar I am with the investment the slower I will invest.

Invest in Casino Ventures, Invest in Virtual Transactions (like PayPal) and start your own ISP that specializes in AR/VR for the lowest latency experiences possible (current ISPs are dinosaurs and don’t keep up with the direction things are going and think that the end-all-be-all of being an ISP is Video Streaming). The goal of an ISP going forward should be low latency full-sensory streaming from one side of Earth to the other with virtually zero lag, think Pacific Rim except remote controlling it on the other side of the Earth in real-time. This will be a multi-trillion dollar industry. Also, invest in Robotics/Automation Ventures.

There's a lot to unpack here. - What's the hypothesis behind investing in casinos and virtual transactions? - How exactly does one start an ISP? - Robotics and automation is a large space. What specifically is interesting here and how would I connect with people working on these tech?

Look to invest some % into Alternative Assets like Bitcoin. I invested $178k about 43% of what I wanted to at that time. And now I'm on 60% and aiming to push higher

I started investing in equity crowd funding in 2017 and have enjoyed it. None of the businesses I've invested in have had an exit (and don't expect any to soon) so hard to gauge returns but none of them have gone out of business so that's a plus! I've really enjoyed following along in their growth and seeing how they pivot. I'd recommend trying to find a company that's local as that makes it even easier to become involved if you've got the time and want to. If you don't want to go at it alone, find a local Angel Investing chapter and join since you're accredited.
