I'm choosing between an offer from Hive AI (MLE) and Arista Networks (SWE). I've heard good things about Arista as a company in terms of work culture and whatnot, and also a lot of bad things about Hive in terms of shitty leadership and bad culture (in office 5 days a week, bad leadership). I am really interested in the ML space so being an MLE at a company that sells ML as a service is a really strong career pivot in the right direction, but I'm wondering if anyone else has been in a similar boat? Hive: 140 base + 10% bonus pros: MLE instead of SWE, and Hive is an ML company Pre-IPO Unicorn(??) New grad culture, possibly good learning opportunities Cons: Paper money ISO stock options Bad blind and glassdoor reviews and WLB Arista: 130 base + 10% bonus + 30k RSUs Pros: Pretty silicon valley tech vibes. Relaxed, good WLB Cons: SWE (not really a fan). Apparently not a great place for learning because it's _too_ chill? I'm trying to grow and learn as much as possible during early parts of career. #tech #hiveai #hive #arista #aristanetworks
No point in working as SWE if you’re not really a fan.
You do realize that a good chunk of the tech industry is not in it for the tech right?
Get ML exp then leverage that for ML role at FAANG level. It’s what I did.
Makes sense--can I DM you about what you did? Edit: if you're ok with sharing here that would also be great, but if you're worried about privacy I'd love to take to DMs!
Not too much to share really - got a job in adtech initially in MLE at a time when ML changed from being done by data scientists to being done by MLE, then when I went to goog I had a ton of relevant ML experience that hiring managers wanted to get.
Will you be living in the bay or remote?
Also is that 30k rsu each year or over 4 years?
Leaderships not very friendly, but company’s probably going in a good direction. I do SWE and saw the same culture stuff before I joined but haven’t really minded it
YOE?
