OPT to Green Card?
Hi! I'm currently working at Amazon on my OPT. My OPT expires in mid August. I will be applying for the H1 in this years draw. 1) I was wondering if I start my GC process via Amazon, what will happen in the case in which I don't get the H1 card but my GC has been initiated by Amazon. 2) Will going for premium processing help with the timelines? TC:180k P:S The GC caps don't apply to my nationality. Total process takes ~ 18 months.
If your OPT ends in August and you don’t get an H1, you will be out of status. Check with your immigration lawyers.
I got my GC while on OPT last year. I was at Microsoft. Don’t know what the policy is at Amazon to file while on OPT.
Are you on STEM EXTENSION? If so, you should start now. If not, wait until your STEM kicks in. I don't anticipate you getting to I-485 by August. When filing for I-485, you can apply for a new EAD, which typically takes about 60 days after filing, so factor all this in.
