Hello blind I recently came to Canada and found a job at a mapping company. Came into work today and found out I "have not met company expectations" and my employment would be terminated immediately. I asked why and my manager and head of hr said they aren't willing to disclose that information. Since I was let go within 3 months of hiring they didn't need to provide any notice or pay. There was no feedback in the last few days. I had literally no clue this was coming. I am open to new roles for frontend/fullstack if anyone can reffer me to a new role. Is Canada or your province at will employment?
That sucks OP, but āI was fired for incompetenceā isnāt the best lede for ālooking for referralsāā¦
Homie was definitely smoking too much of that legal weed
If I was fired for incompetence why didn't they give feedback?
Check at RBC, I can refer.
That sucks. Companies need to work with employees and help them. Seems like you got zero feedback.
Check Square.
It's amazing more than half of the votes so far are saying his/her fault lol. Based on what exactly?
First 3 months are probation. Usually team members are asked about performance and any negative feedback leads to termination. You are not eligible for benefits in the first 3 months and company is protected too
your fault for not performing
They told you you didnāt meet expectations and you were still confrontational on feedback, you think theyāre going to walk you through performance when youāll just be defensive again? I consulted for companies that also let people go because they exaggerated their resume and were bad at their job. If you are totally dependent on feedback from them and canāt take a minute to reflect on your own performance thatās probably the issue, you needed to have your hand held through everything and couldnāt work independently
When your manager says you're doing a good job and the project is on schedule to be delivered before the deadline makes me think I was doing a good job. But maybe you're right i should have taken the project being done before time as a sign that the tickets I groomed were exaggerated should have reduced Their time substitutionally.
You didnāt mention your performance in the post, you reply defensively. You donāt execute completely or take feedback well, thereās your feedback.
Sorry about your situation. It must be so stressful. You may want to consult a Canada employment lawyer since this sounds fishy (but I'm also not Canadian or a lawyer).
