I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now and would really love to get your views on this.I have a diverse background (10years of total exp and based in Canada) as I started out in software engineering and then branched out to strategy ops. My long-term goal is to get into Product Management I have 2 offers. Offer-1: Consulting Product Manager at a start-up (180K TC. it is all base + bonus and no stock compensation. However seems I can quickly grow through the ranks). Leveled at PM-2 (equivalent to 62 at Microsoft) Offer-2: Senior Revenue Operations Manager at Shopify (250K TC) I want to take the Product Manager role given my long-term goal, however, Shopify's offer is tempting. Is getting into Shopify first and then internally transitioning to Product Management within 1-2 years feasible? Would like to see different perspectives on this #productmanager #product #pm #StrategyOps #BizOps #RevOps
I think you should take the Shopify offer. Shopify products help with Revops anyways so there might be the opportunity to move within the company to a PM role. Why wouldn’t the startup not give at least options? Is it because you are not an FTE?

Seems like an old post, but replying any way if it helps someone in a similar situation. Take the PM offer if you ultimately want to be a PM. Moving internally to PM is quite tough anywhere because you need experience doing the PM role.
