My GF got two new grad offers from Audible(Newark, NJ) and Bloomberg(NYC). Both entry-level Software Engineer. Audible TC 204k Base 142k, Signing 44k/36k, Stock 934shares, Relocation 7k, Rental Stipend 6k Bloomberg TC 182k (Initial offer) Base 155k Target Bonus 17k Relocation 10k Still waiting for Bloomberg Competing offer, hopefully can get new TC around 200k, Base 155k, Target Bonus 30k, Signing 5k/5k, Relocation 10k. Both have pros and cons. Both have good WLB, but slow career growth. Bloomberg growth into HF. Life at NYC is more fun. Audible use Amazon Infra, growth into Tech. Easy to transfer to Amazon. We’re trying to make a tough decision between these two companies, any comments and ideas would be welcome. Update: Bloomberg after compete TC 220k Base 155k, Target Bonus 30k, Signing 25k, Relocation 10k.
For a new grad, Bloomberg. You need to gain experience, you don’t want to get laid off at your first gig, so the stability is worth it for such a small pay gap.
But you got to stay at Bloomberg for long term since it's uncle Mike does not like boomerangs
He does not, but after you get your experience there's not much reason to come back. Bloomberg is pretty good for new grads. They don't do well by senior engineers since there's not really levels or promotions unless you want to become a manager.
Damn when I was a new grad at audible over a yr ago, I made a lot less than that… tc was only 170k
Audible paying this much to new grads?
Newark Campus pays 10% more than other campus like LA Boston
It got to given the undesirable location ig. That said, this is a good time to join Amazon given the stock price. She’ll likely get a juicy amount when it starts vesting (year 3). Also Afaik audible does not have PIP. Almost impossible to get fired at that place lol
What’s the rental stipend?
If you rent apartment within Newark, NJ, they will give you $500 a month.
Very enticing, but is newark worth it tho
Newark is not safe and the luxury rentals are overpriced. They know that Audible employees get $500, which they probably factor into those high rental prices. Audible offer is good though. Also in case you are wondering, no pip culture at Audible.
Agreed. Newark is a dump
@Rdh33- that is a very inconsiderate comment. There are people calling Newark their home. Since OP is fortunate enough to be rich and have a choice, I suggested them to consider safety concerns. Don’t go as far as calling it dump. Newark has a rich heritage if you explore online. Also I have talked to some wonderful people who live there.
if Bloomberg matches, take it. Cash is king
