Hi teamBlind community, Pls help me evaluate this offer from deliveryHero - Berlin YOE - 7 years - India Academic Qualification - MTech in Artificial Intelligence from IISc + MS Advanced computer science , Nottingham UK , B.E Computer science , CEG Chennai Previous and Current company - worked in a startup for 5 years which got listed recently , currently working with my previous manager in his startup. Worked as a ML- Engineer in a both the startups. Current salary : Rs 40 LPA + RSU (India) Offer : Delivery Hero - ML Engineer Salary : 76,000 Euro + 15K Relocation Bonus I'm planning to move to Berlin with my wife and 4 yr old kid . Lowballed . Try booking.com they will take you to ~95K(I am assuming) for your experience. I am a MTech with ~5yrs experience of DS and they were in for 85k fixed(unfortunately couldn’t crack it) , on top they had RSUs and bonus(had interview with them in Oct). I bet you can make better Euros.
With wife (assuming not working) and kid this TC is extremely low. Also didn't they give you any stocks?
Totally agreed, given that 40LPA which OP earns in India has lot more purchasing power compared to 75K in EU. Assuming OP switches in India, it can go to 50LPA(avg) given the current hot market. For EU a salary of 85-90K is what is needed for 7 yoe senior in DS/ML space.
No stocks , the recruiter clearly mentioned stocks are only for senior positions .
Great offer for a non-senior position, but it’s going to be extremely difficult to get an apartment with two bedrooms, expect to pay a €1,800 rent. On the bright side, DH allows for remote work, so you can live on a cheaper place outside of the city, but of course that comes with its own downsides.
yes , i too think so. On paper for a non senior position this is a great salary. But I'm moving with my family and I've live in a tight budget ..
I moved to Berlin with similar salary 5 years back, things are different now. If you can negotiate, try to go beyond 90K base at least.
Is it so difficult to live with a family with this salary comfortably? I received a similar offer but didn’t take it since I thought the base was low. But on the other hand I can always make a quick jump right after 6 months or so to increase the base? Would that plan work in Germany?
Difficult, maybe not as that depends on person to person but super comfy and able to save maybe tough. 6 months is actually the probation in most companies in Germany so switching may or may not be a good idea. But then you can always trust your instincts, do your best bit and make the move a success .
What did you ask for originally as the base salary?

That is strange they didn’t ask. Just ask them for a bit more and see what happens.
