#tech #offer I got two offers and I don't know which is better long term. Worldcoin pays a bonus program of 120k crypto tokens vesting over 4 years (30k/year) with a 1 year cliff, once they vest I can sell them for cash. Grammarly offers private shares of 12k vesting over 4 years (4k/year), I can't disclose the stock price. Grammarly doesn't have titles, they told me that the role is around Staff level. Decision factors: job stability, long-term career investment. AI is hot but I don't know if Grammarly will make it. I have no idea about crypto and I don't know where WC will be a year from now. Total YOE: 12 years full-time + 3 years part-time. Location: Remote, Germany. Current Shopify TC: 205K euros. 150K base salary + 50k stocks (yearly). Got laid off from Shopify recently.
Please put up your current Shopify comp
Just updated the post with my Shopify info + location details.
I'd stay at Shopify. Crypto is on the down so not much renowned anylonger. Grammarly seems like it won't make it either. What's the reason for leaving? Shopify comp seems better than those offers
Is the location Canada?
No, Germany.
Wow - pick which ever one will let you move to the US for a better compensation market.
With all due respect, I’d never live in USA even if you tripled my salary ✌️
Who asked
Europe comps are lower than US. One is a software engineer and the other is a manager. Do you want to be an engineer or a manager? Those are very different roles and I would decide that question.
Been a Staff Dev and an EM in the past, don't mind which way the pendulum swings. I'm looking for feedback on these companies and whether people believe their markets will shift drastically in the future.
Is grammarly long for this world ? Seems like a redundant product with all the LLMs
Their product seems still relevant with all the real-time corrections, they're building their own LLMs right now for GrammarlyGo.
"Doesn't have titles" ... so mostly this works out poorly for your career progression and can sometimes mean the culture has weird mechanics. Valve is the best example I can think of and it's a bit lord of the flies. I'd research here and on Glassdoor before taking such a role. Having said that, if you need to decide now because you need money I would take Grammarly before crypto. Crypto seems like a bubble. Grammarly will allow you to hop to other AI/NLP companies which is a valuable path.
This is great feedback, thank you.
Is it $4000 equity or 4000 RSUs. What’s the current share price of Grammarly?
It's definitely weird. They're offering me $12K worth of RSUs, the current share price is low ($20), and they're looking to bump it in the future.
Bump the value of stock or your RSU grants? Either way it’s a rip off compensation for a Staff role.
Grammarly might get impact hard by chatgpt
I'd avoid any crypto, particularly connected to Sam Altman.
Care to share more why?
Well, for one: its crypto. Just a case of who is last holding the bag. That will be you when it goes to nothing. The second point: there is quite a lot of material/investigative journalism available for Altman and also separately about Worldcoin.
yoe? that seems like one of the weakest “staff” offers I’ve ever seen
YOE: 12 years of full-time work experience. 15 if you add 3 years of part-time work prior to that.
