Hello Blinders, could really use some help in this offer evaluation Current: Base - 93k 401k + bonus - 9 percent Offer Ford Base - 105k 401k + bonus - around 18 percent Sign on - 5k Level - gsr7 Masters with around 4 YOE Location - Detroit I wanted to know if this is a good level at Ford? Also how long does it take to go to a gsr8 typically and how is the growth in the research departments? #Ford #offer #apple #google #facebook #aptiv #generalmotors #faang #software #compensation #compensation
Whats the role??
Very good level for 4 YOE. I am an ex manager at Ford and I think you are getting at a very good level. GSR8 level in 3-4 YRS. Then you are stuck there for. While
That makes since the guy above make it seem like GSR8 is above 10 YOE
Are you on Visa? Which team or role?
This is for the AV team
Good offer gsr7. May stretch a bit more. 108k is feasible. Also, signon of 10k is doable.
Yea I guess they were able to do 105k and 5k sign on for the AV team
Nooooooo Apply to Tesla and get more money in stonks
Tesla offered my teammate 210k tc for a tpm role in bay area. He has 8yoe with masters and 5 in auto as tpm. He declined. Turned out a good decision as the stock is now $250 less..
Its a good compensation. I would recommend you to accept the offer and get couple of years of experience.
That’s a decent offer from Ford. They don’t pay you bonus in percentage of your base. They say for gsr7 it is 7k but you will never get that. They will give you 100% if and only if Ford meets all of its objectives, and that is never the case. So expect you bonus around 7k* (60-70%).
I thought almost all OEMs meet the bonus to atleast 90 percent no? I know GM does really well with their bonus component
Which team?
401k? That’s a great tc.
I really think your offer is fantastic for your 4 YoE. That is very very early stages in the career for automotive industry. For comparison I am at PhD + 8 YoE with a base 108k plus 4% bonus at a TIER1. Not in detroit but still automotive which is pretty much average everywhere in the US (other than bay area startups). Some of the people I know are in the same ball park. From what I gather GSR8 is a last level for a huge majority of engineers. Very few move further the ladder. GSR5 - fresh grad GSR6 - 2 to 4 YoE GSR7 - 4 - 15 YoE (varies a lot) GSR8 - last level for a majority of engineers and they stagnate here This follows with LL (leadership) levels. LL6 - supervisor LL5 - manager LL4 - chief engineer LL3 - director LL2 - VP Absolutely not saying that you won't make it past GSR8. It's just that statistically chances are low. Good luck and enjoy your new role.
Why would they hire him at GSR8 with only 4 YoE?
They are not hiring him at gsr8. He was curious how long it takes from 7 to 8.
