After being unemployed for nearly a year due to layoffs, I have finally been offered a position and I am expecting a competing offer to come through from another company. Company: Verizon Role: Senior Engineer Location: remote (perm) Base: 130k Bonus: 12% Stock: 10k vested over 3 years TC: $145,600 Sign on bonus: 0 Current TC: 0 Previous TC: 130k base + 7000 rsu (pre-ipo, not vested before layoff) YOE: 8 using niche skill they are seeking, 13 telecom specific Their offer $130,000 matches my last salary and is the low end of what I asked for in compensation expectations. Is it appropriate to ask for 10% more base salary during negotiation if they matched your low range?And/or should I ask if there is options for a sign on bonus? Since this offer is crucial to my well-being, I do not want to risk losing it. Thanks for the insight! #tech #offer #evaluation
You should ask for more tactfully by using salary stats. It is expected that you respectfully ask for more once. Don't push it though. Congrats
I would say it’s worth negotiating but you have to make it clear that you don’t want to leave money on the table. Say something like “ I’m extremely interested in this opportunity and loved the team and looking forward to a start date. But at the same time this offer is on the lower end of my comp expectations and I would be comfortable with 10% more comp)
How did you survive for one year man
I survived off of the little savings I had. I’m to the point where I do not have enough to cover all of my basic expenses next month and will have to beg companies for promise to pay bills and ask for extensions. It’s awful but I’m happy to have an offer. I am/was very close to losing my house and vehicle. I have never been without a job and it was a real eye-opener
Damn , you've been through a lot. Hope things are good now . Congrats 👏 on new job.
Glad things are looking up for you!! Counter using hard data once with everything you’re requesting.
Thank you!!!
Just here to say congrats OP
Thank you! I appreciate it!
congratulations, OP. This gives me strength knowing you survived 1 year and still got an offer. I have been laid off for 4 months with no job, trying to hang in there.
Take job and keep applying
Just take it and keep looking. Especially if its remote. You could be job searching half the time
I would wait for the second offer in hand before negotiating if timing works. But congrats!!

Who are these retards asking for dictatorship in India?
Hi congrats for the offer. Just curious, is the market condition that bad or were you taking a career break?
Thank you!! The market is horrible. This was not a career break. Thousands of applications, several rounds of interviews. It’s tough out there.
Congrats!! How were the interviews at Verizon? Did they ask Leetcode? How many rounds were there?
