This is an update from a previous post since I've received updated offers. Would love to get opinions. My main concerns are technical growth and maximizing compensation. Reddit: Salary: 190k TC: 270k first year; 250k second, third years (3 year vesting) Remote Snowflake: Salary: 180k Bonus: 10% TC: 325k for four years (4 year vesting) Bellevue or San Mateo (no compensation adjustments) Reddit does offer a 401k matching ($7k) while Snowflake does not offer any. Also, I don't have to pay rent currently due to living with family, so I would continue that if I chose to work with Reddit. I currently live in a state with one of the highest income tax rates (~10%). It does seem like rent in either San Mateo or Bellevue would cost me about $2,500/month, ~30k a year. Reddit also has potential IPO upside, although I don't believe it will be a significant amount in the near future. If my napkin math is right considering the additional expenses: Reddit TC: 243k first year, 225k second and third years (after income tax) Snowflake (Bellevue) TC: 288k every year (after rent and 401k contributions) Snowflake (San Mateo) TC: 255k every year (after rent, income tax, and 401k contributions) Please correct me if I'm wrong in these guesses. For anyone who votes Snowflake, I'd also love to hear which location. San Mateo is the engineering hub - is it worth the compensation hit to be there? YOE: 3 TC: 150k #offer #evaluation #reddit #snowflake #tech
Isn’t Snowflake shady in their C level execs?
Lol wtf is this
YoE: 3 , TC 325k congratulations op! 👏 well done. IMO, take snowflake. Reddit product is weak, future is bleak as they keep pivoting from their original mission to allow being anonymous, since anonymous browsing doesn’t help selling ads. Don’t know much about San Mateo, but if it’s anything like the Bay Area living in Bellevue would be better.
It is Bay Area 😬I vouch bellevue
Hell no San Mateo is infinitely better than Bellevue.
I'm not from the US. But looks like the TC difference is not worth thinking about. Choose what would make you happier. Starting a new adventure or comfortably living around your family.
50k a year is a substantial TC difference at these salary ranges. It can be the amount that makes you get a nicer place, a nicer car, etc
Snowflake stock is overvalued and has no upside. The office is next to a Caltrain though.
We are loving the office, and the stock price growth
Reddit being remote just auto wins for me lol
Hi, congrats on your offer! Would you mind sharing your prep and the general difficulty of your onsite? Thank you in advance.
190k salary and remote would do it for me. I think snowflake has higher upside and is generally cooler tech space, but I wouldn’t want to live in either of those locations so to each their own
Snowflake could be remote too
That's true although at the moment they believe to be back in office early 2022.
As understand from all-hands it is very low probability to be remote :(
What valuation is your Reddit offer based on? And what level?
6B valuation
I'd value the Reddit offer higher with upside. But if you need the immediate liquidity Snowflake might be the better option.
