The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Hey guys, I'm mulling over an offer for Uber in SF and would like a second opinion on it. Position: Software Engineer II (3 years experience) Offer: 145k base + 9000 RSUs Coming from the Midwest, not sure how that base pay correlates to standard of living in the Bay Area. It'll be just me, my wife, and our two dogs so living space is a top concern. Also, any suggestions on neighborhoods to look at for housing would be appreciated.
I live in SF on 145k and am able to live a comfortable lifestyle. You should be okay.
Neighborhoods that are good : Pac heights, Protrero, outer and inner sunset, Richmond, nopa, Bernal. Pretty much anything not in the TL(tenderloin). Since, you’re coming from the Midwest you probably don’t want to move somewhere too noisy/busy like soma to start. Just a suggestion.
Fair offer for software engineer II
It’s not a lot of money but for 3 years of experience, you can’t expect a lot more than that for base salary. How about bonus?
Target bonus is 15% for SWE2 if I remember correctly.
Then it sounds like a good offer.
did they specify it’s general or specialized area?
But always counter
What does 9000 stocks equate to?
Won’t give exact number but what is reported publicly is in the ballpark. Its around 35$ a share right now.
Thats like 78k in stocks per year . Thats super . Is there any sign on bonus?
Wow, I think the rsus are great, I have heard past eng 2 were getting closer to 6k rsu in 2016. For 3 years of exp I think it’s good
Yeah they stepped up the RSU game a lot in the last few months. For a while we were really screwing people over o feel bad for the 2017 offers.
How much does the 9000 RSUs equate to currently?
Around 35$ a share is what is advertised publicly.
Is 409a really what’s advertised publicly? Isn’t it actually the preferred price at 48.77?
You might want to sit down and compare money after cost of living. You get taxed state income of 10% and apts are around $3000/mo currently. Considering that's after tax money, I'd be sure the take home pay is high enough for you.
Good offer for a SWE2 position.
