Got an offer from Expedia as a TPM and likely American Express as a APM. Salary non-negotiable both. Currently making 100k TC (80k base, 20k-ish~ RSU, somewhat volatile). Which position is more worth if I want to eventually transition into product management from a Software Developer background (IC at current company with a very slow process for transferring roles internally)? I know the “obvious” answers but I don’t know much about AMEX to put it out as a contender (esp since it’s a product role). If anyone knows anything about them I’m very open to hearing it, thank you in advance! #pm #tpm -YOE: 0.8 Expedia: -TC: 120,000 -Base: 110k -RSU: 40k -Sign-on bonus: 15k (10 first year/5 second) American Express: -location: remote -TC: 90-100k -Base: 90-100k -RSU: None -Tuition Reimbursement: 7k/year -Bonus: 5% tied to raise/performance
Make a poll but Expedia
Definitely Expedia
Not amex
Any particular reason outside of compensation if you don’t mind me asking?
I started my career with Amex as a contractor and worked there for 5 years and changed several teams. My experience 1. Frequent reorgs, hit or miss. 2. WLB can be bad in many teams. 3. Work can be stressful, a minute of production outage the VPs will be on your head. 4. Micromanagement is common 5. Outdated tech and very little usage of open source technology.
Sounds very similar to JPMC.
Devops is joke in these companies. Infrastructure/Production support team got renamed to DevOps and they care of promoting code to higher environments and deployments. You still need a ticket for this process 😬
