Hello! Currently working as an NLP engineer at wells with good salary/comp and benefits. Just got a offer at Booz Allen for MLE role - have been trying to make a switch to MLE engineer but not really sure to make a switch in this recession time. Do you guys know if Booz Allen federal projects will be recession proof? Also how is the work environment like in Booz? The current job salary and compensation is higher than Booz Allen offer but this role is more engineering heavy role in MLE so getting this role might set me up for better future opportunities. Current job is very stable and I am having cold feet to make the changes in this dire economic situation. Current - 180k Booz offer - 160K Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Recession is behind us. Booz is known as low WLB in defense sector. You’d be lowering TC. Don’t go.
What is low WLB?
Poor Work Life Balance
Booz is a crap show. Its literally the bottom tier government staffing firm to fill most federal roles. Basically the worst place to go unless you have no other options.
Booz is in the premium of the government contracting companies. It’s fine if you want to consider it lower-tier in ALL of consulting. But it’s one of the higher paying contracting firms out there. Definitely not bottom tier government consulting.
Every company says they're the best but generally quality and quantity are inversed. Booz is huge and they're known for their infamous bench where people sit around getting paid to do nothing. That said, the pay is above average, not bad compensation, but you generally aren't going to find the best and the brightest there.
Don’t go to consulting firm
I would avoid BAH
Depends if you want or want to upgrade clearance and the role offers it. Otherwise seems like an all around negative
For the reasons mentioned above avoid Booz. Bate and switch job responsibilities and sitting idle for time actually hurts your development compared to staying where you are. Nothing they work on is really to cutting edge and mle role won’t be doing much
It will be political and the work will be a lot less interesting … just how large companies are. Stay where you are and do interesting work
Booz- Would not recommend. Worked there, not fun. Plus, salary does not grow there YoY unless you get promoted
Stay in your current position. Change jobs after 1-2 year when job market is good

Having worked at similar companies, I would pass. Your offer might say MLE, but you'll be proposed to projects where you'll end up working as a DS/DE/BA because "they just need someone to do it."
This is very true, I was hired as MLE as well and was told to interview for projects that didn’t even relate to ML
