Old TC: 150k CAD (laid off) New TC: 0 I currently have offers from two different Canadian companies: first one is 85k CAD (data analyst) the other is 95k CAD (data engineer). Overall these seem pretty safe and I wouldn’t worry about any future layoffs while I’m at these companies. Another point to note is that I also live at home so I have very little expenses. The lay off really got to me because now I’m looking at positions paying half as much as I used to make at no name companies. So I started applying to some US companies and I’m wondering at what TC would it be worth it to move there? Currently in the final stages at: New York based startup, data analyst, expecting 80-100k USD + options Tiktok, data analyst, 100-130k USD base + options Considering living expenses, career opportunities, TC, I’m so confused, what should I do here? I’m a Canadian citizen if that helps. YOE: 3
Yeah, don't bother with NYC for less than 150k. If married and wanting kids, don't bother with the US at all.
I would focus on boosting your resume when you are early in your career. Don’t worry so much about compensation unless you really need the money short term.
You live at home so you really need to factor that in. It’s a lot of money especially in big tech hubs in the US. I’d stay in Canada and apply to US remote jobs as that would min-max your expenses and income.

Move to the USA for higher tc unless you have wife/gf or house to hold you down
SDE 3 comp is 350-400k CAD in Canada
Tc he lists are base for entry level in USA, don’t think he’s aiming for sde 3 in Canada
