Hi All, Posting for my brother. Sorry for the long post. Could you please help him decide between below offers ? He is a backend SWE. Capital One offer - focused on building backend for their fintech Oracle offer - focused on backend, working on migrating their recent acquisition Cerner from AWS to OCI and then working on health product (cerner) on OCI Akamai offer - focused on building their cloud native delvelopr tools and services. Salesforce offer - focused on infra for on load balancers, ingress gateway between control and data plane. He is not sure about the future of this role and how much he can get out of it and challenges there. He is a backend SWE working closely on large scale distributed systems. He is considering between Oracle and Salesforce however he is not sure about the infrastructure and service mesh and challenges there at Salesforce. He is being offered for a MTS level. That is a new area for him. However Oracle role involves RESTful api design, building and maintaining distributed services for cerner product. However he found Oracle tech stack to be old and people working there don’t seem to excited about new technologies and deploying it. So all in all which one should he choose ? More than money — job security, WLB are the most important thing for him. How is the promo for MTS level at Salesforce vs Oracle PIP culture Are annual refreshers given at both ? Pro and cons of both Salesforce and Oracle He is not leaning towards Akamai and Capital one coz he didn’t enjoy interviewing there. Current TC - 138k at Juniper Networks
Salesforce it’s gonna be hard to get refreshers. If he likes the base and don’t mind a stagnant salary go for it
What’s his yoe?
4 YoE
The role at salesforce sounds boring. I choose Oracle for the TC and work
Only thing that matters is TC and longevity (also for TC) Salesforce is best
I would choose SF. Nice base, company culture, WLB etc.. If he is performing, won’t be hard to get to SMTS is a couple of years. That’s put him at 210 + 15% bonus. Plus our stock is doing great :) But I will tell you - the role can be demanding and lot of trouble shooting and boring. He needs to be intentional about his growth. He can switch teams once he get his foot in. Would pick SF over any of these.
First thing first - ask him to stop interviewing 🤦♀️
You sure capital one gives equity?
I don't think we do for that level. Someone can prove me wrong. Also is a pretty weak offer I would pick Salesforce.
this feels like a test for brain death at a hospital
You mean after taking the test, brain death happens ? Or does this test determine is the brain dead or working ? Or is this a test for someone who is already brain dead ? Feels like you need English test 🫡
