i'm at a startup not msft blind tax: 2.5 yoe 250 TC WLB/TC balance is the most important to me have offers from linkedin and amazon for seattle. all interviews are for seattle TC is averaged for first 2 years amazon: 195/2600 units of stock/ 135 y1 sign on / 100 y2 sign on. 345 TC can probably go a bit higher to 370ish (L5 at amazon, L4 everywhere else) linkedin: 300TC, 170/320/60 (downlevel from sr swe to swe which is L3) in the process for goog/uber/twitter/pinterest/lyft all for L4 Should i take linkedin/amazon or roll the dice with other companies? priorities: wlb = interesting team > tc >= growth > company product/domain linkedin: - pros: wlb/team/culture - cons: level amazon: - pros: tc/growth - cons: wlb all other future companies: - pros: prob tc + level - cons: gamble with interviews google has good wlb + comp but harder interviews and would likely be GCP uber has decent wlb + comp but layoff risk pinterest has good wlb + tc (not as high as uber/google) lyft has good tc + wlb but layoff risk and 1 year vesting some other questions: - how long to get promoted at linkedin after downlevel from swe -> sr. swe? - is linkedin seattle/bellevue different from SF wlb/culture wise? #linkedin #amazon #google @linkedin @amazon @google @uber
If you’re in your early career, don’t simply pursue wlb. You will likely be stuck in rest and vest environment like LinkedIn and stressful after few years having no shiny project in you resume.
This advice is pure shit :D, working 14h a day at Amazon doesn’t make me better engineer. I have friends working 2-3h at google and also in the same time created a startup now having 2m TC.
Grinding above senior is not worth the money. If you chase money there are plenty of better options
Just avoid Amazon and Uber
Is the Amazon offer after negotiation? What was the initial offer? I'd accept Amazon if I were you
Hey how long did you team match take with LinkedIn? I interviewed with LinkedIn for a senior and got downleveled too. Been in the team matching phase for a month now
You interview with a specific team I believe. I heard back within a week on interview results
Oh the same team extended you an offer? That makes sense then. The team I interviewed with were only hiring seniors.
